So as you should know by now, I purchased the LOVE LETTER Tour Box, which comes with her Lifehouse and Arena Tour DVDs which can be pruchased separately. I’ve done the reviews for those DVD’s, and they can be found in the Otsuka Ai section. As for this particular review, I will review the contents of the box and the extra DVD, which also comes as the second DVD with the Arena Tour DVD.

The 3rd DVD comes with the clay animation shown during the Arena tour, but quite frankly, I find it useless. The Arena Tour DVD already shows about 97% of the footage, and so to have it on a separate DVD is quite pointless. The next bit is some short clips of Otsuka’s performance at KOCHI BAY SQUARE on April 5th (for the Lifehouse tour). The whole thing is shown grainy as if on old film, and they really are just short clips, not much else to them. It’s nice, but it’s not special. Although it’s interesting to note how dead the audience is for the beginning of “BLACK HAIR J BEEF…” as opposed to the Zepp Tokyo performance where they went insane. I preferred the latter.

As for those “behind the scenes”, they pretty much play during the credits. Although there is some fun editing, it is pretty short lived, and again a waste of time. Like the rest of the DVD. I’m not even going to bother to rate this.

As for the whole box set, it’s a square little thing which Otsuka designed herself (we see this process in the DVD), and there’s some broken English written on it. The DVD’s are in slips that act like envelopes, although since they are so thick, it can be a bit hard to open them. There’s a folded square insert with credits and DVD information, and a handwritten (and then copied and printed out massively) letter from Ai, and the Hong Kong version comes with a translation on a separate slip.

And of course, there is a (40-page?) photobook, which contains sections for both the Arena tour and the Lifehouse tour. It’s actually quite nice although a tad small (just enough to fit in the box). It’s better than the Ai am BEST photobook.

So would I get the box? Heck yes, if you don’t have any of the other DVD’s already. Otherwise, I think it’s a bit of a waste of money, since there is just the box, letter, and photobook that comes extra. After all, I loved both tour DVD’s, so why not.

For the overall box, 8.5/10
