“Beautiful Fighter” is Onitsuka Chihiro’s 8th single, and again, she deviates from the norm established by her first three albums.

Well, alright, “Beautiful Fighter” isn’t really a breakthrough song or anything, but she doesn’t so country-rock or whatever very often. I suppose you could liken it to “ROLLIN'”s style, with a tinge of “Tiger in my Love” in terms of catchyness. Believe me, it’s catchy, and pretty fun. She’s got a great attitude when she sings the song, and the arrangement is perfect. Not to mention that there’s no piano. It guess that’s an achievement for her.

The B-side of the single is also very band-ish with no piano, although its definitely got a more sombre tone. The lyrics are interesting to, with the chorus starting with “And so, I become a monster”. Again she sings impeccably, with a great low verse and high chorus to contrast. The arrangement again is very nice, with an interesting inclusion in the background, although the instrument is not listed so I’m not sure what it is. It’s a great mix of acoustic and rock sounds, although I wish she gave the song a real bridge. But it’s definitely an A-class song, and it matches the A-side well.

As a standard, Chihiro includes the instrumental to the A-side. As a compliment (or perhaps just because the song is so good), she includes the instrumental to the B-side as well. The Cd single is pretty standard, although I must say I much prefer the design on this single over “Sign”‘s. I mean, it’s got a nice colour (well, gray) scheme and cover picture. Much like the last single, CHIHIRO Archives vol. 2 is concluded as a CD-extra. Here we have a short video for “Koe (piano edit)”. You can guess what this is of course. takefumi accompanying Chihiro on the piano, done in the same studio as the special performance of “BORDERLINE” from the Ultimate Crash DVD. But sadly, we only get the opening of the song up to the end of the chorus. And really, the original had a lot of piano to start with, so this is not exactly an improvement over the original or anything.

So again, the songs are great, and you won’t be disappointed at least buying the songs digitally. And sure, the CD-EXTRA isn’t exactly amazing or anything, but at least it’s a pretty physical single, so I’m sure you won’t mind having that too.
