Despite having been to the Ghibli museum in Japan, I had never been much of a Ghibli fan until the past year. To be honest I hadn’t heard much about the works, and so I had only seen Graveyard of the Fireflies (which I loved). Then in my first year in residence at university, we decided to watch a lot of movies near the end of the year. In March, we watched a Ghibli every other night, and I enjoyed them quite a bit. My conquest for their music started with my love the the “Merry-Go-Round of Life” from Howl’s Moving Castle, but I couldn’t find the official version. I came across this album, and saw that it was relatively cheap ($6.99 for 12 tracks?) but it was not official. Could it be trusted? The previews sounded more than decent and high-quality, so I went for it. Here’s what I’ve got.

iTunes presents… vol. 3 – Epik High

May 20, 2011 at 7:40 pm (Epik High, iTunes presents..., Loveholic) ()

One feat. Jisun from Loveholic (from pieces, part one)
Decalcomanie (from pieces, part one)
Umbrella feat. Yoonjin (from pieces, part one)
Pieces of You feat. Jisun (from pieces, part one)
Fan (from Remapping the Human Soul)
Love Love Love (from Remapping the Human Soul)
Paris feat. Jisun (from Swan Songs)

For the last time, “presents” is a verb, not a noun. Get it right.

I’m not entirely too big on rap and hip-hop. I generally find it hard to get into music where rappers are singing about themselves or other rappers. I just like them to stick to an abstract subject matter, and go with it. I also don’t typically like straight rap; hip-hop has the emphasis that I like on melodies and such. So imagine how pleased I was when I found Epik High, a group that for the most part I won’t be able to understand, and is also very talented in the compositional department!

iTunes presents… – vol.2

May 19, 2011 at 7:44 pm (ayumi hamasaki, BoA, iTunes presents...) (, , )

HANABI (from ayu-mix 7 Acoustic Orchestra) – ayumi hamasaki
kanariya (from ayu-mix 7 Acoustic Orchestra) -ayumi hamasaki
forgiveness (from ayu-mix 7 Acoustic Orchestra) – ayumi hamasaki
Eien (from Best&USA) – BoA
Hurricane Venus – BoA
Copy&Paste – BoA

Again, that’s “presents” as in a verb, not a plural noun.

I was only a little bit interested in ayu-mix 7 Acoustic Orchestra. Some of the tracks were repeats, and others were songs that probably should not have been done in this fashion at all. But there were a select few that I was interested in, and on the first day of release in Japan, it was also on iTunes all around. So I just had to.

Days (8-bits of tears YMCK remix) -ayumi hamasaki
GREEN (Acoustic Orchestra Version) -ayumi hamasaki
It’s all Love! -Koda Kumi x misono

Tenbin ~Tsuyogari na Watashi x Yowagari na Kimi~ – misono

Not “presents” as in the noun, but the verb. Get it right.

“What is this?” Many people might ask. Well since I buy all my music, but I don’t enjoy buying singles (unless I get them used for like, 300yen), I buy some things from iTunes. Of course, I live in Canada, so anything in the Canada store will likely be in your store, whoever you are. We have a very dispairing selection of J-Pop (but it started to grow!) Anyways, these reviews will be for those few songs that I buy, since they won’t show up in any other review. I also will not be giving number ratings, just a recommendation (or not).
